Week 2 as a Level 1 Nursing Student

This past week was a total step up from week 1. We started to finally really get into the course materials and things really started to pick up. I am realizing the intensity of the program with things starting to build up. I haven't really gone out at all in what seems like a long time, but really, it's been about 1 week. I guess it's just a big change from the last 6 months of my life. I turned down a girls night out, a games night, and dine out! I spent my entire Friday afternoon/evening, and all of Saturday holed up at home, doing homework. But I can't even complain because this isn't bad homework. I guess the beauty of BCIT...or maybe this particular program is that all this stuff seems purposeful. Man, I sound like the number one fan or something.

This week, we got to brush each other's teeth and feed each other. If you know my quirks, you will know that I both find it weird to feed other people AND hate being fed. This week, I overcame one of my quirks! This does not mean, however, that I am more willing to feed my friends, sorry. In fact, I hope I never have to feed any of you, because that would mean you would be a patient!

It hasn't been too difficult to stay on top of all the readings, but I am struggling to keep ahead. I adopted the concept of "front-loading" from nursing, so I am going to try and saturate my weekends with homework and readings so that I can devote my weeknights to re-reading everything from the weekend, doing minor assignments given, and rewatch the nursing videos because they pretty much encompass all the written procedures that I read and reread and rereread because I'm more of a visual learner.

I've got this presentation to do on malnutrition for Feb 5th and I'm desperately trying to figure out a way as to present it in an effectively creative way. I'll need to provide a handout and so far, I'm thinking of a take-home crossword mixed with a fill in the blank fact sheet. Then maybe I can do a Jeopardy board game with prizes to spice things up a bit?

I'm slowly starting to get to know everyone in the program. Oh! I volunteered to be a class rep for student recreations! It was exciting for me because one of my goals was to meet a tonne of new ppl, so I figured that it would be a great way for me to get to know my classmates as well as ppl from other programs!

Ok, enough procrastination, time to keep reading!

Until next Sunday, folks!
